Mr. Gavin Meiring, Principal
I am honored to serve as the Principal of Red Oak Middle School—a place that holds a very special meaning for me. Originally from South Africa, I came to the United States in 2004 and began my career in Nash County at Middlesex Elementary before moving to Red Oak Middle, where I spent eight years as a teacher. After that, I transitioned into administration and have served as an Assistant Principal in both Wilson County and Nash County for the past 10 years. Now, I am grateful for the opportunity to return to where it all started as the Principal of Red Oak Middle.
I firmly believe in holding students accountable and maintaining high expectations, as this is the foundation for their success both in and out of the classroom. I am committed to working closely with our administrative team, staff, students, and families to ensure that Red Oak Middle continues to grow and thrive as the best school it can be.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Meghan, and our two children, Lynden and Rowan. I also love watching rugby, cricket, and football, as well as playing golf.
I am excited about the journey ahead and look forward to working together to make this a great year for our students and community.
Dain Butler, Ed. D., Assistant Principal
I am proud to join the Red Oak Middle School administrative team! I have served North Carolina public schools for over 25 years in numerous roles. I have been a classroom teacher, school principal, central office administrator, and school superintendent during my tenure. I have always been passionate about providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students and staff. I am a father to 15-year-old twins and I am married to my wife, Kim. We are Rocky Mount residents, we both love animals, and we are both cancer survivors!
Tesha Jones Dixon, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Dixon is from Rocky Mount, NC and a product of the Rocky Mount City Schools System. She is starting her twenty fifth year in education and is excited to be joining the Red Oak Middle School Family. Mrs. Dixon graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in English from East Carolina University. She began her teaching career with Nash County Schools at Red Oak Middle School. Mrs. Dixon taught for fifteen years during which time she earned a Master of Arts in Reading Education and a Masters of School Administration also from East Carolina University.
She has served as an Assistant Principal at Edwards Middle School, Southern Nash High School, JW Parker Middle School and Northern Nash High School. Being a lifelong learner, Mrs. Dixon believes all students can learn and as educators the goal is to ensure and provide the best instructional means for student success. She enjoys spending time with her loving and supportive family and is an active reader, craft maker and crocheter. Mrs. Dixon looks forward to learning, growing and supporting the Red Oak Middle Family and Community again in an Assistant Principal role.
